PALINDROME

From Sampath’s Desk :   Today (Friday) – 12.3.21 - is a PALINDROME.   Last month also, we had PALINDROME on 12.02.2021 (Friday).   What is a Palindrome?   A word, phrase, number or any other sequence of units which has the property of reading the same forwards as it does backwards, character for character, sometimes disregarding punctuation, capitalization and diacritics.   RISE TO VOTE SIR:   This is an example of a sentence that is a PALINDROME.     LEVEL, MADAM, and RACECAR:   These words are examples of single word PALINDROMES.     (R.SAMPATH) 12.3.21

WORLD WOMEN'S DAY (Mar 8)

From Sampath’s Desk : WORLD WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8) TAKING A CRITICAL VIEW OF 'CASTING COUCH' COMPLAINTS                                             Oh, Adams, what is happening to some of you? Why do you remain oblivious of our cultural values and ethical ethos? Can’t you sensitize yourselves regarding the Eves? Please remove from your biased dictionary the egoistic and domineering terms - ‘male chauvinism’, ‘male-dominated society’, ‘women are weaker section’, ‘I am a male, you’re only a female, mind it’, etc. - that portended power-assertive male hegemony, implying and reinforcing the so-called ‘subservient status’ of women. Shed your age-old offensive ego, prejudiced and partisan psyche, scornful attitude, sneering approach, superiority complex and sniping actions towards women who, don’t you know, hold half the sky? Why then the ride roughshod over and...

‘CHO’ RAMASWAMY

Image
From Sampath’s Desk:     ‘CHO’ RAMASWAMY  (5 October 1934 - 7 December 2016)     A loud voice of fun-making pun-speak full of satire and sarcasm on political and other issues with uncompromising comments and viewpoints has gone silent. Yes, the versatile ‘Cho Ramaswamy’ – a lawyer, actor, stage-play maker, writer-cum-satirist, and magazine editor - a rare blend of intellectual capacities and capabilites rolled into one - is no more. He was more known initially as a good film/stage comedian and subsequently as a critic-columnist. Wisecracking and paronomasia ingrained in him would meaningfully, effectively, and efficiently erupt on apt occasions which were the hallmarks of his entire life. He launched a Tamil fortnightly ‘Thuglak’ in 1970. He passed away on 7.12.2016.    He was a vociferous speaker and prolific writer often with a sense of sensible ridicule and sneering remarks in a funny but impressive language.  ...
