STEP INTO SOMEONE’S  SHOES (or)

FILL SOMEONE’S SHOES:

 

Meaning:

 

If you STEP INTO SOMEONE’S SHOES, you take over their job or position.

 

If you FILL SOMEONE’S SHOES, you do their job or hold their position.

 

Example sentences:

 

In the U.S.A., if the President resigns or dies in office, the Vice-President automatically steps into his shoes.

 

Now that ‘X’ is gone, the manager wants me to STEP INTO HIS SHOES.

If you are quaking in your shoes/boots, you feel very nervous and/or afraid. (Also - To tremble with fear - often used sarcastically).
