Meaning:

To do something because you are angry, even if it will cause trouble for you – to cause problems for yourself by trying to punish someone – to do something that is meant to harm someone else but that also harms the person who does it

I know you are mad at your parents, but running away is only going to make your own life harder. Don’t CUT YOUR NOSE OFF TO SPITE YOUR FACE.

To fool, deceive or trick someone – to dupe/hoodwink someone by telling untruths – prevent someone from discovering something by deceiving them – befooling someone into thinking well of you/them
