FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:    EPIDEMIC CAUSES HAVOC AS RULES RULE THE ROOST   (Everything contained in this article is purely imaginary and fictitious. The write-up is an attempted fun and satire. There is absolutely no intention to slight or defame anybody or anything)   There was an epidemic flare-up in a city. A Committee was set up by Government to investigate. The committee couldn’t finish its job in time. It wanted one more week time extension. Finally, on investigation, it attributed the endemic to a new type of virus emanating consequent on sudden mass deaths of rats, cattle, dogs etc. Since the Committee didn't have as one of the references to fix the name of the new virus if one already exists, or if not, christen it with a new name, it couldn’t proceed. FROM SAMPATH’S DESK           REVISITING MY HALCYON DAYS IN OFFICE     Each day started with the morning alarms - of a clock or cell phone - to wake me up, as is the case even now. If not, the hooting of milk cookers and/or rice cookers in the neighbourhood would surely do the job. As is the typical characteristic and norm with any machine-like city life, a day began for me amidst the hustle and bustle all around! Ululations of milk, vegetables, and other vendors (nowadays pre-recorded call-outs blare on a loudspeaker),  etc. would herald the beginning of the race with the time, which is what the urban milieus in Chennai, the place of my residence and office were all about. FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:     VAGARIES OF OPPORTUNITIES, FORTUNES, AND THE FUTURE!   All that glitters is not gold. Obviously, gold has to glitter. Inversely, it doesn’t always require only gold to glitter. Other things can also glitter as bright as gold. But, of course, ‘the other things’ can’t match the quality of gold except for their appearance for a short time. By whatever name you call a rose, it will not and doesn't lose its beauty,  nicety , a nd above all, fragrance. Names don’t matter. A seed is a tree in disguise in an encrypted form. Milk is a multi-product producer viz. curd, buttermilk, butter, ghee, etc. Isn’t it a marvel that a blend of Hydrogen and Oxygen in some proportion goes to produce water? Again, the egg is bird-involved and the bird is egg-evolved!   These are simple examples tracing the origin of different causes vis-à-vis their effects.
