PURPOSE
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:
PURPOSE
நோக்கம் / குறிக்கோள்
/ உத்தேசம்
उद्देश्य / प्रयोजन / मकसद
The
purpose of life is not a water-tight or air-proof compartment. It’s rather subjective
and varies from individual to individual, although overlapping, convergence,
and confluence of ideas and similar thought processes cannot be ruled out
altogether. That apart, personalized and individualized ideas, objectives, targets,
goalposts, etc., are unique and different depending on the mindset of
individuals, their life expectations, and upward aspirations. It’s certainly
not ‘one size fits all’ and/or ‘the same cap fits all the heads.’ Finally, the
purpose of life is what each person chooses to make it. Needless to say,
finding meaning and fulfillment is a key aspect of having a purpose.
Variety
is the essence and spice of life. To cite a common example - Differences and
diversities are like flowers with different colours, different shapes, and
different fragrances. And, fruits are in different sizes and shapes, with
different tastes. When diversity is the norm, individuals have varied
perspectives. Maybe, with the efflux of time, new trends and scenarios
unfolding, and the progresses and advancements made from time to time, people
are bound to have change of mind and priorities that may influence and impact
their personality and perspectives - giving scope for strengthening the existing purposes,
adding new ones, and/or tweaking them, if and when needed.
Essentially,
the purpose of life is a personal journey of discovery and creation. It's about
finding what resonates within one, what gives one meaningful joy, and aligning and attuning his/her
actions with the values they cherish.
The
priority purposes understandably veer around personal growth. That is a
continuous process encompassing learning, employment or self-employment,
self-advancement, etc.; in short, becoming the best version of their choice.
Failures
should not stop you from persevering. A mission may fail, but the vision should
remain. Anyone can do great work if he/she lovingly celebrates it while doing instead of merely or perfunctorily performing it.
The
purpose of life, after all, is to live it, taste the experience – good or bad
equally - enjoy and celebrate your work with the fullest satisfaction,
notwithstanding the result of an effort. After all, the Sun sets only to rise.
Now, let’s have a word-play
with the ‘PURPOSE’:
The PURPOSE of PURPOSE is
to have both a PURPOSE of life and a life of PURPOSE. Passion thrives on
PURPOSE as much as PURPOSE thrives on passion! Fuel your passion and profession
with a PURPOSE. Passion-driven PURPOSE and PURPOSE-driven passion are both
self-propelling to make your life PURPOSEFUL. PURPOSEFUL life greatly serves
the intended PURPOSE. So, live a life of PURPOSE PURPOSEFULLY. If your life is
PURPOSELESS, it serves no PURPOSE.
மதியும் உமது, விதியும் உமது.
Thy PURPOSE and thy
destiny.
Let me conclude with the
following quotes:
I think the purpose of life is to be useful, responsible, honourable, and compassionate. It is, above all, to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.
(Leo Rosten)
Work gives you meaning and purpose, and life is empty without it.
(Stephen Hawking)
The goal of ‘The Purpose-Driven Life’ is to help people develop a heart for the world.
(Rick Warren)
Purpose is how you use your experiences, talents, and passions to better the lives of those around you.
(L.
Peterson)
Who is helping you, don’t forget them.
Who is loving you, don’t hate them.
Who is believing you, don’t cheat them.
(Swami Vivekananda)
