OFF THE HOOK and AN IVORY TOWER

OFF THE HOOK:

If someone who has done something wrong gets OFF THE HOOK, they manage to get out of the awkward situation they are in without being punished or blamed.

Example sentence:

We cannot let that government officer get OFF THE HOOK for the wrong committed by him.

AN IVORY TOWER:

If you accuse some of living in AN IVORY TOWER, you mean that their lifestyle or their work prevents them from experiencing the problems like other ordinary people do, and so they remain generally unaware of the plight and problems of others.

Example sentence:

They are all out of touch and reach. They live up in AN IVORY TOWER. They don’t see what is going on down here.

PROVERB:

கோபுரம் தாங்கிய பூதம் போல் சுமக்கிறான்.

He carries like a goblin that bears a tower.
