SRI KANCHI MAHA PERIYAVAA 
(20 May 1894 - 8 January 1994)

 

68th Head of Kanchi Mutt, You were Sri Adhi Sankara’s reincarnation;

For many, the Mutt was spiritual thirst quenching destination;

To drive away mind stagnation and for ignorance elimination;

A place for Divine Communion to enhance determination!

 

In You mind-reading was an ingrained art;

Devotees were fond of talking to You heart to heart;

But settled quiet once they had a glimpse at;

What with peace and tranquility setting to kickstart!

 

Thenambakkam (Kanchipuram) was where You stayed for long;

The place people used to throng;

I had the fortune and got excited to visit the place You stayed all along;

To remember and cherish the memories lifelong!

 

All the wealth belongs to the Divine;

Realization of the same is the right medicine;

There can be no better self-actualization to attain;

All these Divine edicts and effects of Yours still remain!

 

Your silent glancing was more than elocution;

Looking at You in the inner mind graces us with rejuvenation;

What else one would have asked for other than Your spiritual enunciation;

For wholesome emancipation!

 

Argentinian scholar Eugina Borghini felt, You looked and lived like Jesus;

You had solutions for any crises;

With your blessings, our fortitude never ceases but increases;

And we get exhilarating experiences while reading Your Holy verses!

 

Made ripples in the ‘Advaita’ philosophical hinterland;

Discerning minds have asylum in Your wonderland;

Thus we get a soft-land;

Off the mundane whirlpool of life island!

 

Mostly You ate puffed riceº;

Yours represented the God’s voice;

Who could make a different choice?

For, Your mercy is there for all of us to rejoice!

 

You showed to the world simple ways of living;

We felt in You an extraordinary being;

Even Your Guru was once stunned to feel the beauty of water flowing;

From downwards to upwards, amazingly mind-blowing!

 

Your lectures were simple yet sharp laced with divine expositions;

That were remarkably lucid with right suppositions;

Many times we had exciting and electrifying sensations;

We had many benefits to reap from Your diverse manifestations!

 

A seer with down-to-earth mould;

You were perhaps the last yore-like Rishi we had;

But for you ‘Shankara Nethralaya’ºº would not have been got founded;

That was what we badly needed!

 

Your homilies made people to righteously think and act;

In Your followers it had and continues to have profound positive impact;

You had a galaxy of national and international bigwigs to attract;

Who, in their lifetime, had the opportunity of Your Holy connect!

  FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:       THIRUMURUGA KRIPANANDA VARIYAR திருமுருக கிருபானந்த வாரியார் (25 August 1906 - 7 November 1993)   THIRUMURUGA KRIPANANDA VARIYAR was born on 25.8.1906 in Kangeyanallur near Vellore, Tamil Nadu.   He sowed divinity in the minds of the common man and words contemplated upon were humorously conveyed by him so as to grip the minds of his audience. He was affectionately and reverently called VARIYAR SWAMIGAL by people.   He had no formal education. However, he was brought up by his father himself at home giving him core divine knowledge and wisdom. Swamigal learned Tamil literature, grammar, and music, especially playing Veena.
