SRI RAMANUJAR

(1017-1157 AD)

 

Sriperumbudur was Your birthplace;

It took centuries for a Mahan like You to surface;

To stand by the human race;

Who else other than You could bless us with halcyon days of happiness?

 

‘Sri Vaishnavism’ was Your brainchild and spiritual enunciation;  

Cardinal principle being absolute surrender to Lord Vishnu for salvation;

Otherwise called ‘Vishishtadvaita’ for Divine elevation;

You urged Duty, Devotion and Dedication in everyone’s disposition!

 

Sri Thirumalai Nambi º identified the Super Power;

And profound Holy quest embedded in You as a spiritual tower;

Your avowed aim and ambition was to empower;

You were not just a preacher but exemplar!

 

Thiruvarangam and Tirupati were Your preferred destinations;

To enjoy the Heavenly dispensations and presentations;

And connect with all the Divine interventions;

Your name and fame had gone beyond descriptions!

 

You shunned social ‘untouchability’ and eschewed ‘caste inferiority’;

Were synonymous with social reforms upholding principles of equality;

Nine treatises scripted by You called ‘Navarathnas’ reign in immortality;

That added to Your adorability!

  

You are one of the reigning stars of the Divine Trinity; ºº

A Seer inculcated unity and harmony in humanity;

Who strove hard to usher in social amity;

Modern scholars compared You with Thomas Aquinas of Christianity! ººº

 

History tells us that You were brilliant in time management;

‘Om Namo Narayana’ was the base Mantra of Your Bakti movement;

Singing Tamil hymns before the Lord was your achievement; ºººº

Worked for all-inclusive advancement!

 

Endeavoured to carve out a society of an egalitarian matrix;

You had a right philosophy-mix to fix;

A Diviner who took things towards the logical climax;

None, according to You, is a curse or jinx!

 

Your words and deeds centered on total emancipation;

To secure entire society’s all-embracive participation;

And also for absolute absolution;

Without hitting the barricades of obsoletion!

 

You were the Supreme realization educator;

And great awareness generator;

Who could excel You as a human integrator;

Besides being a soul liberator!

 

All are children of God without any distinction or difference;

You were encyclopedia of Vaishnavism for reference and reverence;

With meditation, worship and adoration of the Supreme need adherence;

These very same words of Yours give us positive vibrations!

 

God alone exists; all else seen around are His manifestations or attributes;

Saying so, You have opened the spiritual floodgates;

For Your ideological moorings there are hardly any substitutes;

Your countless followers see no other better routes!

  FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:       THIRUMURUGA KRIPANANDA VARIYAR திருமுருக கிருபானந்த வாரியார் (25 August 1906 - 7 November 1993)   THIRUMURUGA KRIPANANDA VARIYAR was born on 25.8.1906 in Kangeyanallur near Vellore, Tamil Nadu.   He sowed divinity in the minds of the common man and words contemplated upon were humorously conveyed by him so as to grip the minds of his audience. He was affectionately and reverently called VARIYAR SWAMIGAL by people.   He had no formal education. However, he was brought up by his father himself at home giving him core divine knowledge and wisdom. Swamigal learned Tamil literature, grammar, and music, especially playing Veena. At age 8 itself, he had to his credit many poems in ‘Venba’ style.
