Old French covenant (“agreement”), from Latin conveniēns, convenientem (agreeing, agreeable, suitable, convenient)

 

Pronunciation:

 

Ka-va-nant -  கவநன்ட்

 

Meaning:

 

A term of agreement to do or not to do a particular thing – a promise incidental to a deed or contract either express or implied – a pact of binding agreement between two or more parties to a contract, agreement, pact or document (deed) – an incidental clause,  commitment and/or obligation(s) in an agreement.

 

உடன்படிக்கை – ஒப்பந்தத்தின் ஒரு க்ஷரத்து – ஒப்பந்தப் பத்திரத்தின் ஒரு நிபந்தனை

 

Example sentences:

 

The contract contains a restrictive COVENANT against putting up a building for at least two years on the land.

 

A landlord will normally include a COVENANT in the tenancy agreement against assignment and/or subletting of the leased property either in full or in part(s).

 

If one joins as an army officer, he has to abide by the secrecy COVENANT.
