WOBBLING VOICE OF A CHILD LABOURER
From Sampath’s Desk:
WOBBLING VOICE OF A CHILD LABOURER
12 JUNE
WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR
Called an uneducated lot we languish amid plenitude;
We're honourably snubbed as
school drop-outs in multitude;
Unless our parents and society shed
their narrow attitude;
Our dream of education will never reach
high altitude!
They trumpet the rhetoric ‘Education for
All’;
And legislations to save us from
downfall;
But neither our parents nor society guard
us against the foul;
Robbing us of our precious childhood making us fail!
Our parents send us to menial jobs for
their selfish end;
To brick-kilns, restaurants and fireworks forcing us to make many a bend;
To earn income for the family as if they
are blind;
And compelling our childhood to grind!
Why do they forget we are tender
and minor in age?
Entitled to blissful childhood without
being put in a cage;
Why don’t they care for our future instead of keeping us in siege?
Never allowing us to come up in life and
usefully engage!
People say childhood is all about love, play, and fun;
Is it our fault or fate to skip the run?
When we see our fortunate brethren we grin;
For what can we do except reconciling to
our ‘sin’?
They make a tall talk;
As if moving the Heaven down to Earth for our sake;
But when they meet us in person they
sulk;
And finally do nothing but bilk!
Governments and leaders come and go;
Our plight continues to be so;
Laws and Rules are of course there as a
show;
Will there be light beyond the tunnel saving
us from our woe?
For generations we carried hope and
belief;
Whether there will be at long last a
sigh of relief?
Will they give us a new lease of life?
Or our outcry will only fall on the deaf!
What a hassle-laden and pliant life we
lead;
Carrying a boulder on our tender head;
With a family behind us to be cared;
Finally is there anyone to give us good blood?
