CALL A SPADE A SPADE:

 

Meaning:

 

You speak frankly, openly, and directly about something - to say the truth about something even if it is not a pleasant one, or liked by the person(s) concerned - not to hide or dress the truth up, and speak in a straight forward manner and language - it is used when the description of something/someone is given honestly - to address or describe the true nature of someone or something without hiding anything and without fear.

Parents are often reluctant to see the faults of their children. It is always better to CALL A SPADE A SPADE rather than spoil the children with this behaviour.
