THE BABY (AIR INDIA) IS BACK ON THE LAP AND CRADLE OF ITS PARENT - TATA GROUP
From Sampath’s Desk:
THE BABY (AIR INDIA) IS BACK ON
THE LAP AND CRADLE OF ITS PARENT - TATA GROUP
Maharajah is back in his Empire.
Yes, Air India is back on the lap and safe hands of India’s
greatest business group TATA. It is a great come-back or homecoming
for Air India, and take-back for TATA. Yes, Air India is
now back in the kitty of its original master TATA group. In other words,
the baby (Air India) is back in the lap and cradle of its parent, the TATA group.
It is a great and historic reunion.
Yes, on 8.10.2021, India’s largest conglomerate being the winning bidder (₹18000 crores) has got back the full control of Air India and its low-cost unit Air India Expres and a 50% stake in ground handling company Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS).
This is a momentous and milestone event for India in that a conglomerate –Tata Airlines - established in 1932 and nationalized in 1953 - has taken it back in a bid of disinvestment.
Yes, India’s largest conglomerate being the winning bidder (₹18000 crores) has got back full control of Air India and its low-cost unit Air India Expres and a 50% stake in ground handling company Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS).
This is a historic event
in India in that a conglomerate – Tata Airlines
-established in 1932 and nationalized in 1953 - has safely taken it back in a
bid of disinvestment.
Privatization of the national carrier was on the anvil for the past
few years with an earlier plan to sell a 76% stake finding no takers. The
present successful privatization of Air India is perhaps crucial
for the government to stop the flow of public money to run the long state-run loss-making
air carrier and augment its coffers as it is hard-pressed to revive the
pandemic-battered economy.
As for the airline's establishment, the employees will be retained
for at least one year after which the new management may offer VRS (Voluntary
Retirement Scheme). The government will provide provident fund and gratuity
benefits to the employees besides post-retirement medical facilities. It is
reported that Air India presently has 12085 employees – 8084
permanent and 4001 contractual. Air India Express has 1434
employees.
However, it is neither an unmixed
blessing and unadulterated bequest, nor a cakewalk on the featherbed for
the TATA group to have re-inherited the airways. There will be
more thorns to deal with than flowers and velvet patches on the path to take
Air India to prosperity. It is a legacy now beset with many problems
which TATA has to grapple with and put the airways back on fresh air.
As a renowned and adventurous entrepreneur, TATA will be able to
accomplish it.
TATA not just being a business
owner but one who makes things happen can certainly do the Air India to bounce
back with a bang. TATA’s leadership knows full well that entrepreneurship
is living a few years of one’s life like most people won’t, so that you can
spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.
Successful entrepreneurs don’t wait
for the perfect moment, rather they create it themselves.
Every successful entrepreneur was once
an unknown person that consistently refused to give up on their dream. Here, TATA fits the bill.
To quote Ratan Tata, “Ups and
downs in life are very important to keep us going because a straight line in
an ECG means we are not alive.”
None can destroy iron, but its own
rust can! Likewise, none can destroy a person, but its own mindset can! Our
thoughts can change our life.
Take the stones people to throw at
you, and use them to build a monument.
If you want to walk fast, walk alone.
But if you want to walk far, walk together.
All of us do not have equal talent.
Yet, all of us have an equal opportunity to develop our talents. Yes, let us
all work together for organizational success.
Best wishes Air India to become world-class airways under the
new management and bounce back and regain its coveted position and past glory!
