INDIAN BRAINS DO WONDERS ABROAD!
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:
The other day, a friend of mine asked
me, “What is it that makes Indians do wonders abroad?” Here, I am on a search for an answer.
Wherever big brains are at work with
application of mind, right judgment and decision making, backed by an unbiased and
in-depth SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis, and
careful weighing of the pros and cons, evaluating the plusses and minuses, it will
only be failsafe progress for the organization. And with Indian brains brimming with
these sterling hallmark characteristics, it inevitably creates a 'win-win' for
the organizations conerned.
In a fertile environment, India’s big brains think on right lines, easily fix and solve problems
however contentious they may be, and advance further. The following Indian-origin intelligentsia
adorn CEO posts abroad and it is not without reason they are at the helm of affairs:
Parag Agrawal – Twitter
Satya Nadella – Microsoft
Sundar Pichai – Alphabet
Shantanu Narayan – Adobe
Arvind Krishna – IBM
Sanjay Mehrotra – Micron Technology
Nikesh Arora – Palo Alto Networks
Jayshree Ullal – Arista Neteworks
George Kurian – NetApp
Revathi Advaithi – Flex
Anjali Sud – Vimeo
Analytical thinking and critical
thinking are a ‘sine qua non’ and crucial like the two sides of a coin for any institution - small, medium or big. They form the ladder to climb up, progress further, scale the required heights, and emerge successful. Analytical thinking, at the
first instance, involves three aspects viz. gathering the right and relevant information,
focusing on facts, pieces of veracious proof and evidence, and sifting through
a riot of data and information relevant to organizational success and proceed accordingly. Thereafter, one
needs to identify the key issues involved using the best of logic, reasoning,
compatibility and suitability, and fix them for problem-solving, as any plan,
scheme and/or project however fool-proof and fail-safe it may appear on the
face of it may have initial hiccups, innate and intrinsic intricacies, and other glitches surfacing as
it is taken forward. Separating more complex aspects from the simpler parts
by sub-dividing the information into manageable sizes along with
finding patterns and recognizing trends including the identification of cause
and effect is important. This will help the organization remain trendy.
There is also an imperative need to understand connections and relationships
- both internal and external - of any project or organization, eliminate
extraneous inputs and irrelevant feedback. It is necessary to rightly organize,
collate, and juxtapose - the ways and means, and causes and effects - drawing appropriate conclusions to tread the right course towards the goalpost.
In short, it is like the hulling operations, or chaffing off the husk from the
grain.
Critical thinking involves, in addition
to many of the aspects of the analytical thinking, inter alia,
self-questioning, assessing the possible bias or unsubstantial assumptions,
making inferences from the data and information and rightly filling the doubt
gaps, using even the abstract ideas to interpret the available information, formulation of
constructive, innovative and creative ideas, weighing opinions, options and
related benchmarks, considering viable alternative possibilities, and arriving
at workable solutions to make the plans, projects and systems to run smoothly
and remain robust and lucrative in the long run.
Besides intellectual skills and talents
to the core, professional grit and gumption, never-say-die attitude,
steadfastness to the hilt, never-give-up mindset and ‘go-get’ resolve at any
cost and by all means - these are the clinching issues in which the Indian
brains abroad excel. That answers the question in the affirmative in favour of
the Indian brains to scale peaks of excellence.
