PROFIT AND LOSS IN LIFE!
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:
PROFIT
AND LOSS IN LIFE!
We have heard of profit and loss in business, trade, industry, and corporate. But, what is the profit and loss in life? In other words, what are the plusses and minuses of life? Let us see.
Sometimes, one’s profit is another’s loss, and vice versa. Strangely, at times, profit may prove to be a loss, and a loss a profit for a perspicacious mind. While the company of suspicious elements, though looking like a profit on the face of it, is a real loss. So, avoid this so-called profit. The loss of (keeping off) a cantankerous, irascible, and petulant fellow with negative/nuisance value is a profit. Again, not everyone you lose is a loss.
While business alone is not life, certainly life is like a
business, full of profits and losses.
Egoistic choices, all hankering after personal profit, and all
stipulations of self-regarding desires must be extirpated.
Life’s profit and/or loss need not necessarily be financial but
could be intangible as well like the emotional issues - happiness and/or sadness. The
successful man is one who will profit from his mistakes and try again in a different way
to make it.
When one door closes, another opens. This is a general law of
nature. But you have to explore and find it yourself. For it may be in disguise, not readily visible, transparent or open. Have a discerning mind to identify it. Contrarily, some
often look so longingly and regretfully upon the closed doors that we are not
inclined even to see anything beyond what the eyes meet. Nothing will be
offered to you on a platter; mind it. Many receive advice, but, only the wise
profit from it.
Business ethics say “Profit-making is legitimate, but profiteering
is not.” The same well applies to an individual’s life. While one wanting to
satiate his normal desires is natural, greed to amass disproportionate wealth, and
that too by dubious means, is preposterous.
We should appreciate the beauty of nature which is a plus in
our life. By whatever name you call a rose, it would never refuse to look
beautiful nor pervade and suffuse its fragrance. Again, the greatest loss for
one would be to lose self-respect.
Rejoice at your gains however trivial they might be and do not brood over losses however serious they are. Then only your life will be made a full circle.
Can you find a person who wholeheartedly says “Oh, my victory
is your victory, your loss is my loss?" If your answer is in the affirmative,
that is a gain or profit in your life.
Whatever you sow in the way of kindness
and joy, you will regain many times over. And, to give is to gain. Losing
yourself in the service of others will help you gain - again and again! At
times, there is no runaway from the need to bargain, again and again for gain,
both in commercial life and real life.
Life is like candles. If one is born, it is like a candle ignited. The candle has a life span. While that candle is burning, we ignite other candles
which can be comparable to our children. Before the original candle
extinguishes, the other candles (our children) take over the life proceedings
and march ahead. This profit-and-loss game of life is going on in an endless
spiral, maintaining and sustaining the human race, like any other living beings in the
world. After all, human life is a relay race and chain-like continuous proceedings! Isn't it?
The most irreparable and insurmountable
loss in one’s life is the passing of a loved one. That is the shock of one’s life.
Who wants to learn to mourn for a person, who had left us forsaken and forlorn,
along with whom we had grown, with whom our life was inter-woven, for whom we had
sworn love and affection, and for whom we had wholeheartedly given our heart to
adorn - a situation like a thorn in the flesh!
Success is walking from failure to failure (from minus to minus)
with no loss of enthusiasm toward the goal of profit.
In a lighter vein - “John Milton wrote Paradise Lost. Then his wife
died and he wrote Paradise Regained.”

PROFIT AND LOSS IN LIFE
ReplyDeleteJust reading the words Profit and Loss reminded me of this quote, “What’s the definition of an Accountant? Someone who solves a problem you didn't know you had in a way you don't understand". Perhaps he's the Hero who makes 'Double Entry '.
That being said your article on PROFIT AND LOSS IN LIFE is a well-researched one in all aspects of life. It's so true when you say, “life is like a business, full of Profits and Losses.” In fact, on a daily basis, we can evaluate the Profit and Loss moments.
For most of us, our family and friends are our biggest Profits. Yes, Loss is the Loss of our sweethearts and those who remained/still remain closest to our hearts.
With every loss, there is a reminder that life is short and unpredictable, but we can't let that stop us from being, kind, grateful, truthful, large-hearted, humble, and forgiving. Instead, we have to let it be our lesson and reason to strive for the necessary course change because just when things remain stagnant, there is a new door ready to open through which we pass to enter into a new corridor and chapter for the rest of our life. After all, what cannot be cured has to be endured! Whether we are heavyhearted or lighthearted, the show has to go on, any way.
We cannot be like the Creditor who got bored because, 'he lost interest' but we have to be valuable like a fishing store in order to have a lot of 'net worth. Of course, our net worth is just our family and friends. We need to count our blessings and move on.
A couple of popular jokes in the Accounting World………
A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.
I buy and sell old adding machines for profit but lately I’ve been losing money. ……Something’s not adding up.
Your last para was a BIG REVELATION for me.
Thanks for your In-depth analysis done with flair and fervor on what actually Profit and Loss could mean to different segments of the population. Enjoyed reading it!
