OUR PRIDEFUL ARMY - हमारी गौरवशाली सेना

FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:

हमारी गौरवशाली सेना - OUR PRIDEFUL ARMY

NETAJI SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE

Image
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:                 NETAJI SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE (23 January 1897-18 August 1945) PARAKRAM DIWAS - (DAY OF VALOUR)   Subash Chandra Bose was born on 23 rd January 1897 in Cuttack in the erstwhile Orissa Division of Bengal Province of the British India.   Though born into a large, wealthy, well-educated, and privileged Bengali family, the fire in him for the freedom of India was rather inextinguishable, and his thirst unquenchable. The British rulers jailed him in 1921-1922 because he took active interest in our national independence struggle. Again, in 1925, he was sent to prison in Mandalay for nationalist activities and released in 1927.   After being the President of the Indian National Congress during 1938-1939, differences arose with the top Congress leadership and he resigned from the post and party.   He advocated complete Swaraj and was in favour of the use of force, if necessary,...

REVISITING MY HALCYON DAYS IN OFFICE

Image
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK           REVISITING MY HALCYON DAYS IN OFFICE     Each day started with the morning alarms - of a clock or cell phone - to wake me up, as is the case even now. If not, the hooting of milk cookers and/or rice cookers in the neighbourhood would surely do the job. As is the typical characteristic and norm with any machine-like city life, a day began for me amidst the hustle and bustle all around! Ululations of milk, vegetables, and other vendors (nowadays pre-recorded call-outs blare on a loudspeaker),  etc. would herald the beginning of the race with the time, which is what the urban milieus in Chennai, the place of my residence and office were all about. The daily morning chores tightly tied me up against time ticking on, thus ushering in the day’s hubbub.   Office going in Chennai, a pleasant experience for me once while I was residing in Triplicane which was nearby (at a walkable distance), subsequent...

Image
FROM SAMPATH’ DESK:       FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE (Lady with a lamp) ( விளக்கேந்திய   சீமாட்டி -  கைவிளக்கேந்திய   காரிகை ) ( दीपकवाली   महिला ) (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910)   The President of India, Madam Droupadi Murmu, on 22.6.2023, conferred the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the years 2022 and 2023 on 30 nursing professionals at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi for their utmost dedication, unfailing duty, and determined selfless-service to the ailing human community.   Curiosity now arises to know about Florence Nightingale, who was fondly and affectionately called ‘LADY WITH A LAMP’.   She was born to her British parents in Florence, Italy, and was named after her place of birth. Florence Nightingale was a British nurse, social reformer, statistician, and the founder of modern nursing - all rolled into one. She was credited with being the foundational philosopher of modern nursing and her...
