WHY? WHY?

 

 

 

O Wind, you remain invisible: why? Is it to guard against being trapped by humans, to keep you under their control?

 

O Fog veil, why do you form a curtain in the early morning? Is it to let the people who committed crimes the night before escape?

 

O Moon, you don't want to visit the Earth for fear of being sold out as house plots after dividing you into several housing layouts; is it?

 

O Rains, you come as heavy downpours at times; is it to wash all the human sins out into seas and oceans?

 

O Rainbow, you appear in the sky at times; why? Is it because you want to confirm that different people have different conduct and character, and will show their true colours one day?

 

O Stars, you refuse to come anywhere near the Earth; is it because humans will make a necklace of you to wear?

 

O Black and White clouds, why are you always on the run? Is it because humans will catch hold of you, paint you with different attractive colours, and sell you as cotton candy?

 

 

 

ஏன்? ஏன்?

 

ஓ காற்றே, நீ கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாமல் இருக்கிறாய்; ஏன்?மனிதர்கள் உன்னைப் பிடித்து, தங்கள் கட்டுப்பாட்டிற்குள் அடைத்து வைத்து விடுவார்கள் என்ற பயத்தாலா?

 

 

ஓ பனித்திரையே, நீ அதிகாலையில் ஒரு திரை போல் ஏன் உருவாகிறாய்?முந்தைய இரவில் குற்றம் செய்தவர்கள் தப்பித்துச் செல்வதற்கு வழிவகை செய்யவா?

 

 

ஓ நிலவே, உன்னை பல வீட்டுமனைகளாகப் பிரித்து, விற்றுவிடுவார்கள் என்ற அச்சத்தால் நீ பூமிக்கு வர மறுக்கிறாயா; அப்படித்தானா?

 

 

ஓ மழையே, நீ சில நேரங்களில் பெருமழையாகக் கொட்டுகிறாயே; அது மனிதர்களின் பாவங்கள் அனைத்தையும் கழுவி, கடல்களிலும், சமுத்திரங்களிலும் கொண்டு போய் சேர்ப்பதற்கா?

 

 

ஓ வானவில்லே, நீ எப்போதாவது ஒருமுறை வானில் தோன்றுகிறாய்; ஏன்?வெவ்வேறு மனிதர்கள் வெவ்வேறு குணங்களையும் நடத்தைகளையும் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதையும், அவர்கள் ஒரு நாள் தங்களின் உண்மையான நிறத்தைக் காட்டுவார்கள் என்பதையும் உறுதிப்படுத்தவா?

 

 

ஓ விண்மீன்களே (நட்சத்திரங்களே), நீங்கள் பூமிக்கு அருகில் வர மறுக்கிறீர்கள்; மனிதர்கள் உங்களையெல்லாம் கோர்த்து தங்களுக்கு ஒரு நெக்லெஸாக (NECKLACE) அணிந்து கொள்வார்கள் என்பதாலா?

 

ஓ கருப்பு மற்றும் வெள்ளை மேகங்களே, நீங்கள் ஏன் எப்போதும் ஓடிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறீர்கள்? மனிதர்கள் உங்களைப் பிடித்து, வெவ்வேறு கவர்ச்சியான வண்ணங்களைத் தீட்டி, பஞ்சு மிட்டாயாக விற்றுவிடுவார்கள் என்ற பயத்தினாலா?

FROM SAMPATH’S DESK           REVISITING MY HALCYON DAYS IN OFFICE     Each day started with the morning alarms - of a clock or cell phone - to wake me up, as is the case even now. If not, the hooting of milk cookers and/or rice cookers in the neighbourhood would surely do the job. As is the typical characteristic and norm with any machine-like city life, a day began for me amidst the hustle and bustle all around! Ululations of milk, vegetables, and other vendors (nowadays pre-recorded call-outs blare on a loudspeaker),  etc. would herald the beginning of the race with the time, which is what the urban milieus in Chennai, the place of my residence and office were all about.
