SCHOOL DAYS MEMORIES

பள்ளி நாட்களின் நினைவுகள்:

Depended (on) parents;

Walked barefoot;

Talked lot;

Played mostly;

Studied loudly;

Worried never;

Defended friends;

Ran fast;

Made fun;

No shying;

Chatted freely;

Dared fearlessly;

......

பெற்றோரைச் சார்ந்திருந்த காலம் / பெற்றோரையே நம்பியிருந்தோம்:

 வெறும் காலோடு நடந்தோம்;

நிறையப் பேசினோம்;

பெரும்பாலும் விளையாடினோம்;

சத்தமாகப் படித்தோம்;

கவலைப்படவே இல்லை;

நண்பர்களை விட்டுக் கொடுக்கவில்ல;

வேகமாக ஓடினோம்;

கேலி செய்தோம் / கிண்டலடித்தோம்;

வெட்கப்படவில்லை, தயங்கவில்லை;

சுதந்திரமாக பேசினோம்;

அச்சமின்றித் துணிந்தோம்;

Where is that innocence and freedom now?

அந்த அறியாமையும், அமளித்தனமும், சுதந்திரமும் இப்போது எங்கே?

NETAJI SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE

Image
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:                 NETAJI SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE (23 January 1897-18 August 1945) PARAKRAM DIWAS - (DAY OF VALOUR)   Subash Chandra Bose was born on 23 rd January 1897 in Cuttack in the erstwhile Orissa Division of Bengal Province of the British India.   Though born into a large, wealthy, well-educated, and privileged Bengali family, the fire in him for the freedom of India was rather inextinguishable, and his thirst unquenchable. The British rulers jailed him in 1921-1922 because he took active interest in our national independence struggle. Again, in 1925, he was sent to prison in Mandalay for nationalist activities and released in 1927.   After being the President of the Indian National Congress during 1938-1939, differences arose with the top Congress leadership and he resigned from the post and party.   He advocated complete Swaraj and was in favour of the use of force, if necessary,...

REVISITING MY HALCYON DAYS IN OFFICE

Image
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK           REVISITING MY HALCYON DAYS IN OFFICE     Each day started with the morning alarms - of a clock or cell phone - to wake me up, as is the case even now. If not, the hooting of milk cookers and/or rice cookers in the neighbourhood would surely do the job. As is the typical characteristic and norm with any machine-like city life, a day began for me amidst the hustle and bustle all around! Ululations of milk, vegetables, and other vendors (nowadays pre-recorded call-outs blare on a loudspeaker),  etc. would herald the beginning of the race with the time, which is what the urban milieus in Chennai, the place of my residence and office were all about. The daily morning chores tightly tied me up against time ticking on, thus ushering in the day’s hubbub.   Office going in Chennai, a pleasant experience for me once while I was residing in Triplicane which was nearby (at a walkable distance), subsequent...

P SUSHEELA

Image
FROM SAMPATH’S DESK:       P SUSHEELA The Nightingale and Melody Queen  of South India  Born on 13 November 1935     The South Indian Nightingale and Melody Queen PULAPAKA SUSHEELA was born on 13 th November 1935 in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.   She remained the ace playback singer in the South Indian film industry singing mainly in Dravidian majors - Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and Malayalam - spanning over six decades - for generations of female artists especially heroines.   When she made her foray into the South Indian tinsel world as a playback singer, it was not a cakewalk on the feather-bed for her against the domination of the yesteryear popular singers like Dr ML Vasanthakumari, P Leela, Jamunarani,  and Jikki, among others.   Space will run short if an attempt is made here to mention the popular/hit songs sung by her as they are innumerable; so also the awards received by her - both national and inter...
